Yesterday was wholly dedicated to making progress on the layout build teased in the previous post. And progress was made - I have a new layout.
Last week, I started the task of dismantling the old layout. The objective is to regain all the track material, and as much of the wiring and track underlay as practicable. My rolling stock and electronics are already packed and relocated, as well as a large part of my assembled buildings, but a few are still left.
A while ago I posted the track plan, which itself had taken some time to finalise. At the time, building the layout was a work in progress. The bottom layer was completed without too many difficulties, but the top section posed some challenges.
It took us a while to come up with this one. We looked at other layouts and track plans, and tried to come up with something that would maximise the usage of our available space, while offering some room for scenic features. Here's what we ended up with.
